WORKSAFEBC & YOU
The Workers Compensation Board (WorkSafeBC) is an official government agency which you will more than likely deal with or hear about others dealing with during your career in the forest industry.
The Workmen’s Compensation Act in BC was first passed in 1902. But it took until 1917 for the first version of a Worker’s Compensation Board to be put into place.
WCB was put into place primarily to provide a no-fault public insurance program that protected negligent employers from being sued by injured workers or surviving family members. It also provided most BC workers with the legal right to be some compensation and rehabilitation.
Although still today many BC forest workers look at WorkSafeBC as protector of the employer more than workers, the WCB does offer very valuable services to workers. We believe in working together with the good people in this agency. Many are dedicated professionals.
There are many top-notch people at WorkSafeBC who can be accessed when you need help.
On this website section we address key issues of Filling Out Claims forms, Reporting an Unsafe Workplace and Getting a WorkSafeBC inspector into your work site(s).
